Located on the scenic Moc Chau Plateau in Northern Vietnam, Hua Tat is a beautiful village surrounded by lush, breath-taking greenery. Hua Tat has 751 residents in 57 households who are mostly from the Hmong tribe. Most of them are farmers who grow crops such as vegetables, fruits, corn, plum and tea.
As a small village 170km from the city, Hua Tat is relatively untouched by the forces of modernization, preserving its traditions and culture. In addition, the villagers occasionally hold traditional performances for festive celebrations and guests. Clad in their ethnic costumes, the villagers dance to local folk music played by instruments such as handmade recorders, with props like umbrellas and Qeejs in hand.
The Hmong take pride in their food - well balanced meals that are bound to satiate any person. A traditional Hmong meal typically consists of rice, a meat dish such as grilled chicken, vegetables, and clear soup. The food is usually paired with beverages such as green tea and maize alcohol, which are prepared locally.
The villagers are also very friendly. Greet them with a "xin chào" (zeen chow) or "nyob zoo" (neeyore jom) and you will receive smiles and greetings in return. Better yet, you may find yourself invited to a soccer match by the local adults, spending your afternoon forging new friendships in the village's soccer field. The villagers love to have you around, and will treat you with utmost hospitality.
