Introduction to Papermaking

Papermaking is a tradition that has been passed down for generations in Hua Tat. The villagers make their own paper for various purposes, such as decorating their homes for the new year. The process of papermaking involves 4 steps: collecting, stewing, soaking and drying. This process is tedious - it can take up to one entire month to complete. It is usually done once a year between July and August.
